London

After our second red-eye in a row, we arrived at Heathrow around 6:30 am.  It was still dark, and cold, when we got to the hotel at 7:00.  Obviously, no one felt like heading out sight seeing, so we couldn't believe our luck when the hotel manager let us use a room to for the morning.  Do you think 6 people can sleep in one king-size bed?  Well, we did!! We got about 2 1/2 hours of sleep, then showered and headed in to London.  We took a cab, which turned out to be a bad option.  December 26 is Boxing Day in the UK, which means a holiday, with tons of people headed for downtown London to shop.

Makenzie at Trafalgar Square
We finally made it to Trafalgar Square, but then we had another problem.  McKay had come down with a fever on Christmas Eve, but now he developed a croopy cough.  The cold, damp air made it worse, so we couldn't have him out in the cold.  They have a great city tour on a double decker bus, so we decided to do that, to keep McKay out of the cold.  It is a great way to see all the big sights of London.  Because of McKay' sickness, we decided we would have to cancel plans to see a show in London, since we didn't want him out in the cold late at night.

The next day, McKay and Dave stayed home, while I took the kids and ventured into the city by bus and tube.  Our first stop was King's Cross station, where the kids had fun going to Platform 9 3/4.

What a lunch

Westminster Abbey

Later, we went to the Tower of London, my favorite.  The Tower is visually interesting, with layers of add-ons over the years, and with a rich history to match.  By the time we were done there, we grabbed a quick lunch of fries and ice cream (so well-balanced), then headed over to Westminster Abbey.  We got there just after it closed at 3:40, and by 4:00, it was dark, so we headed back.  The next morning, we caught a plane for Riyadh.  We landed on the tarmack and boarded a bus--about 50 feet from the terminal.  This is our plane/bus.  We discovered that to be typical in India, too. 36 hours later, we arrived in Chennai, India.
